The Sharp KCP110UW is the purifier-humidifier combo to look at if you want verified air cleaning for a large room plus mist-free evaporative humidifying. AHAM lists it at 347 cfm of smoke CADR for about 538 sq ft, the largest rated room size among the combos we track. The catch is the humidifier side: a 0.53-gallon tray and about 2.1 gallons a day at most, so it suits a dry bedroom or living room, not a whole floor. We’d pick it over separate units only if you’ll refill it every day and you’re fine with an ionizer.
This overview is research-based. The numbers below come from Sharp’s product page and operation manual, the AHAM Verifide directory, the CARB certified list and EPA humidifier guidance. Our research method explains how we work.

Air cleaning: a verified CADR for big rooms
The purifier half is the strong half. AHAM’s directory confirms 347 cfm smoke, 352 dust and 443 pollen CADR, and its suggested room size of 538 sq ft matches the manual’s recommended room size at max fan. By AHAM’s two-thirds rule, a 347 smoke CADR covers rooms up to about 520 sq ft, so think large living rooms and open bedrooms with 8 ft ceilings.
Skip Sharp’s “effective up to 2,603 sq ft” line. It assumes one air change per hour, while AHAM sizes are built on about 4.8. CADR is also measured at the top fan speed: on medium, airflow drops from 381 to 222 cfm, so a room near 538 sq ft will get noticeably less cleaning at night. Our air purifier size calculator shows what your own room needs.
Auto mode adjusts the fan from the dust, odor, light, temperature and humidity sensors, and the Wi-Fi app sends filter reminders.
Humidifying: what 0.70 pints an hour really means
Sharp rates humidifying output at 0.70 pints an hour on max, 0.47 on medium and 0.15 on low. These numbers come from Japan’s JEM1426 method at 68 °F (20 °C) and 30% relative humidity, not from an AHAM humidifier rating. Run on max for 24 hours, 0.70 pints an hour works out to about 2.1 gallons a day. That’s our conversion, not a Sharp figure, and the manual says output rises in warmer, drier air and falls in cooler or more humid rooms.
The tray is the real limit. It holds about 0.53 gallons, or roughly 4.2 pints, which by our math lasts:
- about 6 hours on max
- about 9 hours on medium
- about 28 hours on low
Sharp’s manual asks you to refill the tray daily with fresh tap water anyway. There’s no target-humidity setting: the display shows room humidity from 25% to 75%, and humidifying stops when the room reaches what Sharp calls the “appropriate level”. You can switch humidifying off and run it as a purifier only.
Tip: EPA advises not humidifying above 50% relative humidity. Since the KCP110UW has no adjustable target, keep an eye on the display, and see our guide to ideal indoor humidity if you see condensation on windows.
Because it’s evaporative, air passes over a wet filter instead of being sprayed as mist. EPA says evaporative units aren’t expected to disperse substantial amounts of minerals, so tap water shouldn’t leave the humidifier white dust that ultrasonic models can.
Filters, cleaning and running cost
Sharp rates the True HEPA (FZ-P11HFU) and carbon (FZ-J80DFU) filters for up to 2 years, depending on use. The back-panel pre-filter is washable. The humidifying filter (FZ-P11MFU) needs more attention:
- Daily: refill the tray with fresh tap water.
- Monthly, or when it smells: rinse the humidifying filter and tray. The tray can be washed with mild kitchen detergent.
- When scale builds up: soak the filter for 30 minutes in 2.5 cups of water with 3 teaspoons of citric acid, or 3 cups of water with 1/4 cup of pulp-free lemon juice, then rinse well.
The humidifying filter lasts up to 2 years. EPA’s general advice for portable humidifiers is stricter, with cleaning every third day, so our guide on how to clean a humidifier is worth a look.
Power is modest for the CADR. At 94 W on max around the clock, our math gives about 823 kWh and $151 a year at the US average of 18.31 cents per kWh (EIA, July 2026). Medium (27 W) works out to about $43 a year, and low (4.8 W) to about $8. Plug in your own hours with the air purifier electricity cost calculator.
Plasmacluster ions and ozone
Plasmacluster is Sharp’s ion generator. CARB lists the KCP110UW (and the Canadian KCP110CW) as an electronic air cleaner under EO G-22-138, which means it met California’s limit of 0.050 ppm of ozone. Sharp’s manual states the same 0.050 ppm compliance. Ions are on by default; the manual’s product-settings table includes a Plasmacluster Ion on/off function, but it also says the ions can’t be turned off in Plasmacluster Express Clean mode.
EPA notes that ionizers can emit ozone and advises avoiding air cleaners that produce it on purpose. If you’d rather avoid ion generators altogether, a mechanical-only purifier paired with a separate evaporative humidifier is the alternative. Our article on running an air purifier and humidifier together covers that setup.

Sharp KCP110UW
Choose it for a large room where clean air comes first and humidity second. You get an AHAM-verified CADR, evaporative humidifying, long filter intervals and app control. The trade-offs are the small tray, no humidity target and the ion generator.

Sharp KCP70UW
The smaller sibling covers about 396 sq ft at 255 cfm smoke CADR per AHAM (Sharp’s own page shows both 225 and 255; AHAM confirms 255). It uses the same HEPA, carbon and humidifying filter family and is rated 21 dB on low. Sharp doesn’t publish its humidifying output or tank size, so it can’t be compared on humidity. CARB lists it as electronic (EO G-22-139). In our view it’s the better buy for a bedroom under 400 sq ft.

Blueair DH3i
Blueair’s combo has an AHAM-rated 232 smoke CADR for about 360 sq ft, a 3-liter (0.79 gal) tank and, unlike the Sharp, a target humidity you set in the app. Blueair doesn’t publish humidifying output, filters and wick are replaced every 6 months, and its HEPASilent filtration uses electrostatic charging.

Legacy Sharp KC-850U and KC-860U
Both are older non-smart combos listed as out of stock on Sharp’s US store. The KC-860U has an AHAM CADR of 220 smoke for 341 sq ft; the KC-850U has 169 smoke for 262 sq ft and a 0.96-gallon tank. CARB lists both as electronic. We’d skip them unless you find one new at a good price; the KCP70UW and KCP110UW are the current versions.
The Dyson PH2 De-NOx adds a cooling fan and a 1-gallon tank but publishes no CADR, room size or output; see our Dyson Purifier Humidify+Cool review. For the full field, see our roundup of the best air purifier and humidifier combos.
Who the KCP110UW suits, and who should skip it
Good fit:
- A living room or large bedroom up to about 538 sq ft that’s dry in winter
- Buyers who want one appliance with a verified CADR and no white dust
- People who prefer filters rated for up to 2 years
We’d skip it if:
- You want to set an exact humidity target
- You can’t refill a small tray every day, or need to humidify a whole floor (see the best humidifier for a large room)
- You want to avoid ion generators entirely
Note: A purifier can reduce airborne allergens and smoke, and a humidifier can ease dry air, but neither treats a medical condition. If you’re buying for asthma, allergies or a baby’s room, talk to your doctor.
Our verdict
On paper, the Sharp KCP110UW is the strongest purifier in the combo category: AHAM confirms 347 cfm of smoke CADR and 538 sq ft, it draws 94 W at most, and its HEPA and carbon filters are rated for up to two years. The humidifier is the weaker half, with about 2.1 gallons a day at most and a tray you’ll refill daily, and the Plasmacluster ions mean CARB classes it as electronic. Our pick for a large, dry room where cleaner air matters most is the KCP110UW; for a smaller room, the KCP70UW saves money with the same design.
