The Coway Airmega AP-1512HH “Mighty” is a mid-size purifier for a bedroom or living room up to about 361 sq ft. Coway rates it at 233 cfm of smoke CADR, it has a washable pre-filter, a separate carbon filter and True HEPA, and its ionizer can be switched off. The catch in late 2026 is availability: Coway launched the Airmega Mighty2 AP-1512N in March 2026, and the original showed as sold out on Coway’s own store in October. If you can’t find the AP-1512HH at around $240, we’d buy the Mighty2 rather than wait.
This review is research-based, not based on our own use of the purifier. Every number below comes from Coway’s product and filter pages, the AP-1512HH owner’s manual, the CARB certified list and the ENERGY STAR data set. Coway isn’t in the AHAM Verifide directory, so the CADR figures are Coway’s own. Our research method explains how we work.

Is the Coway AP-1512HH still available?
Officially, yes. In October 2026 the AP-1512HH was still listed on cowaymega.com at $239.99 and still on CARB’s certified list. Coway’s March 2026 launch release for the Mighty2 calls the new model the next generation of the Mighty, but it doesn’t say the AP-1512HH is discontinued.
In practice, it’s getting harder to buy. On October 20, 2026, both colors showed as “sold out or unavailable” on Coway’s store, so stock is unclear. We couldn’t verify Amazon stock or prices. If you do find one, make sure the listing is the AP-1512HH itself and that its matching filter set is still sold.
How much air does the AP-1512HH clean?
Coway rates it at 233 cfm for smoke, 246 for dust and 240 for pollen. AHAM’s rule of thumb asks for a smoke CADR of at least two-thirds of the floor area, which puts the ceiling at about 350 sq ft. Coway’s 361 sq ft figure matches AHAM’s own formula (smoke CADR x 1.55), which works out to about 4.8 air changes per hour. Think a large bedroom or a 15 x 20 ft living room with an 8 ft ceiling.
The bigger numbers on the box, 874 sq ft and 1,748 sq ft, assume the air is cleaned only 2 or 1 times an hour. They aren’t comparable with anyone else’s 4.8-ACH room size. To check your own room, use our air purifier size calculator, and see what CADR is for how the test works.
Two caveats. First, Coway isn’t in the AHAM directory and the AP-1512HH isn’t in the current ENERGY STAR list, so no third party has published a CADR for it. Second, CADR is measured at top speed. On a lower or sleep speed it cleans less air, so in a room near 360 sq ft we’d step up to something bigger; our guide to the best air purifier for a large room has options above 500 sq ft.
Filters: what’s inside and what they cost
The AP-1512HH uses three separate filter stages:
- Washable pre-filter. Coway’s manual says to clean it every 2 to 4 weeks with a vacuum or water and let it dry fully.
- Deodorization filter. Coway describes it as an “odor-eliminating carbon filter” but publishes no carbon weight. Replace it every 6 months, per the manual.
- True HEPA filter. Replace it every 12 months. Neither the carbon nor the HEPA filter can be washed.
Coway sells them as the “Airmega Mighty AP-1512HH & 200M Filter Set”, with one HEPA and two deodorization filters, which covers a year at the manual’s intervals. The Fresh Starter set is around $60, and the Allergen, Intense Smoke and Pet versions are around $65 each.
The carbon caveat applies here as it does to most purifiers this size. EPA notes that thin carbon layers saturate quickly and usually have limited odor-removal ability, so don’t expect the AP-1512HH to handle heavy smoke odors or VOCs. Our HEPA vs carbon filter guide explains what each stage does, and our guide on how often to change an air purifier filter compares intervals across brands.
The ionizer and ozone
The AP-1512HH has an ionizing stage that Coway’s manual calls a “bipolar device”. CARB certifies it as an electronic air cleaner (EO G-16-011, January 2016), which means it emits no more than 0.050 ppm of ozone. That’s a limit, not zero. EPA says ionizers may emit ozone, a lung irritant, and that ionizers don’t remove gases or odors.
The good news: per the manual, the IONIZER button switches it off, and the HEPA filter does the particle work either way. We’d leave it off, especially in a nursery or for anyone sensitive to ozone. Our guide to the ionic air purifier goes into more detail.
Noise, controls and running cost
Coway rates the AP-1512HH at 24 dB(A) on its lowest setting and 53 dB(A) on its highest. A particle sensor drives Auto mode and a color light that shows air quality. Eco mode stops the fan after 30 minutes of clean air, and there are three fan speeds, a 1, 4 or 8 hour timer and a filter indicator. There’s no Wi-Fi or app.
Coway lists a maximum of 77 W, which is high for this CADR. Running at top speed around the clock at the US average of 18.31 cents per kWh (EIA, July 2026), that’s about 675 kWh and roughly $124 a year by our math; eight hours a night at top speed is about $41. Auto and Eco modes will use less, but Coway doesn’t publish lower-speed wattage. Try your own numbers in the air purifier electricity cost calculator.
Coway AP-1512HH vs Mighty2, Levoit and Winix
| AP-1512HH | Mighty2 AP-1512N | Levoit Vital 200S-P | Winix 5520 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Smoke CADR | 233 (Coway) | 240 (Coway) | 250 (AHAM) | 253 (Winix) |
| Room size (4.8 ACH) | 361 sq ft | about 360 sq ft* | 388 sq ft (AHAM) | 392 sq ft |
| Ionizer | Yes, switchable | None | None | PlasmaWave, switchable |
| Max power | 77 W | 56 W | 52.4 W (AHAM) | 65 W |
| Wi-Fi / app | No | Not described on product page | Yes | Yes |
*Coway publishes no 4.8-ACH figure for the Mighty2. About 360 sq ft is our calculation from its 240 cfm smoke CADR using AHAM’s two-thirds rule.
Coway Airmega AP-1512HH Mighty
The original still makes sense if you find it in stock at around $240 from a trustworthy seller. You get a separate carbon filter you can replace on its own schedule, a washable pre-filter, a sensor with Auto mode and an ionizer you can turn off. The trade-offs are a CADR only Coway vouches for, 77 W at top speed, no app and uncertain stock.

Coway Airmega Mighty2 AP-1512N
The Mighty2 is a modest refresh, but every change is in the right direction. Coway rates it at 240 smoke, 242 dust and 249 pollen CADR. There’s no ionizer, and CARB lists it as a mechanical air cleaner (EO G-26-042/043/044, March 2026). Coway rates it at 19 to 50 dB, says it’s Quiet Mark certified, and lists 56 W. A MegaScan laser sensor reads PM1, PM2.5 and PM10 and shows a real-time air-quality index, with Smart, Sleep, Eco and Turbo modes and a 1 to 12 hour timer.
Filters change too: a washable pre-filter plus one “Max2” filter that combines activated carbon with HEPA (Coway claims 99.97% at 0.3 µm), rated for up to a year with a percentage filter-life indicator. Coway publishes no carbon weight or filter part number. It’s around $270, and Coway’s site showed mixed stock messages in October 2026. In our view it’s the better buy at a $30 difference.

Levoit Vital 200S-P
If you’d rather have a CADR checked by a third party, the Vital 200S-P is the closest match. AHAM lists it at 250 smoke, 254 dust and 289 pollen CADR for 388 sq ft. It has a washable pre-filter, no ionizer (CARB lists it as mechanical), an infrared dust sensor with Auto mode, Pet Mode and VeSync app control. Levoit rates it at 23 to 54 dB, and AHAM measured 52.4 W at max. Filters start around $50 and last 6 to 12 months; the unit is around $190.
The trade-off is that AHAM lists its filter type as “HEPA-Type”, and Levoit publishes no carbon weight either. For a smaller room, see our Levoit Core 300 review; the Core 300-P covers about 215 sq ft for under $100.

Winix 5520
The Winix 5520 lists 253 smoke, 252 dust and 247 pollen CADR, labeled AHAM Verifide by Winix, for 392 sq ft. Its washable mesh pre-filter (clean every 14 days) sits in front of Filter Q, a combined True HEPA and carbon-pellet filter that lasts about 12 months and costs around $50. You get Wi-Fi, Alexa, dual sensors and five speeds. It’s around $200 on sale.
Like the Coway, it has an ionizing stage: PlasmaWave, which CARB lists as electronic. A button turns it off, and we’d leave it off. Winix doesn’t publish a maximum noise level. The Winix C545, an older rival to the Mighty, was out of stock on Winix’s site in October 2026.

Who the AP-1512HH suits, and who should skip it
Good fit:
- A bedroom or living room up to about 350 sq ft
- Homes with pets, thanks to the washable pre-filter; our best air purifier for pets guide compares more options
- Buyers who want separate carbon and HEPA filters and don’t need an app
We’d skip it if:
- You can’t find it in stock at a fair price (get the Mighty2)
- You want a CADR verified by AHAM (look at the Levoit Vital 200S-P)
- You’d rather not have an ionizer in the house at all
- Your room is much larger than 360 sq ft
Note: An air purifier can reduce airborne allergens, dust and smoke particles, but it doesn’t replace removing the source. If you’re buying for asthma or allergies, talk to your doctor about what else will help.
Our verdict
On paper, the Coway AP-1512HH still holds up: a solid CADR for its size, a washable pre-filter, separate carbon and HEPA stages and a sensor-driven Auto mode. Its weak points are a CADR no third party has verified, an ionizer you’ll want to switch off, 77 W at top speed and, in late 2026, patchy stock. If it’s in stock at around $240, it’s a reasonable buy. In most cases, though, we’d pay the extra for the Mighty2, which drops the ionizer, runs on less power and needs just one filter a year. If you want a verified CADR and an app, the Levoit Vital 200S-P is the alternative we’d look at.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Coway AP-1512HH discontinued?
Coway hasn't called it discontinued. It was still listed on cowaymega.com at around $240 in October 2026, but both colors showed as sold out or unavailable. Coway launched its successor, the Airmega Mighty2 AP-1512N, in March 2026.
What size room is the Coway AP-1512HH good for?
About 361 sq ft, based on Coway's 233 cfm smoke CADR and AHAM's two-thirds rule (about 4.8 air changes per hour). Coway's 874 sq ft and 1,748 sq ft figures assume 2 and 1 air changes per hour.
Does the Coway AP-1512HH produce ozone?
It has an ionizer, which Coway's manual calls a bipolar device, and CARB certifies it as an electronic air cleaner, meaning it emits no more than 0.050 ppm of ozone. You can switch the ionizer off with the IONIZER button, which is what we'd do.
What is the difference between the Coway Mighty and Mighty2?
The Mighty2 (AP-1512N) has a slightly higher Coway CADR (240 vs 233 smoke), no ionizer, a laser particle sensor, a lower rated noise floor (19 vs 24 dB) and 56 W instead of 77 W. It uses one combined carbon and HEPA filter rated for up to a year.
How often should you change the Coway AP-1512HH filters?
Coway's manual says to replace the carbon deodorization filter every 6 months and the True HEPA filter every 12 months, and to clean the washable pre-filter every 2 to 4 weeks.
Is the Coway AP-1512HH ENERGY STAR certified?
Not under the current ENERGY STAR Version 3.0 list, which took effect in October 2025. Older 'ENERGY STAR' claims for the AP-1512HH refer to the previous specification.
